Sri Lankan trio suspended for bulk of Proteas tour

  • Chandimal was found guilty of changing the condition of the ball during the second day’s play of the second Test.
  • The independent Judicial Commissioner, The Hon Michael Beloff QC, on Monday handed Chandimal, Hathurusinghe and Gurusinha eight suspension points each – which means the trio have also been suspended for the first four ODIs and the final Test match against South Africa, starting on Friday.
  • While these are first offences for Hathurusinghe and Gurusinha, this is the second time Chandimal has been sanctioned since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016.
  • Sri Lanka leads the two-match Test series 1-0, with second Test starting on Friday in Colombo.
