Fox Sports Australia – In a move that was criticised by some, the governing body released a 13-man squad for the two-Test series – beginning in Brisbane next week – just two days after losing to India in Sydney.

  • Patterson, Doran go big for Cricket Australia XI v Sri LankaEvery Test, ODI, T20I, and BBL match live.
  • The tour match – which kicked off in Hobart on Thursday against Sri Lanka – was trumpeted as a “bat off” between squad members Matt Renshaw, Joe Burns, Will Pucovski, and Marnus Labuschagne.
  • Unless the CA selectors amend the squad and bring Patterson in before Thursday, there’s no way he can make his Test debut at The Gabba.
  • With Renshaw, Burns, and Labuschagne all failing in the “bat off”, Patterson would have surely trumped them all to a spot in Australia’s Test XI with his fine century against Sri Lanka in Hobart.
  • In the meantime, Jutin Langer, Greg Chappell, and Trevor Hohns will be desperately hoping one of the Test squad members make a big score in the second innings of the tour match to make selection a little easier.
